Bidi Bidi

Africa’s largest refugee camp

View Gallery

South of the South Sudanese border in Uganda lies the second largest refugee camp in the world. Bidi Bidi, formerly a village, became in 2016 a refugee settlement for over 270 000 South Sudanese fleeing civil war. At such a large scale humanitarian aid to the settlement faces many challenges. Security, sanitation, accessibility, and protection against human rights violations are few of the multiple challenges to ensure dignity and proper assistance. More importantly, the images echo the people living inside the refugee settlement: unaccompanied children caring for other children, spouses waiting for their partner to return or arrive, parents who woefully survived their children.
