Drought in Somalia

View Gallery

Nearly 60 percent of the world relies on agriculture to survive. Of the world’s poorest people 78% live in rural areas depending uniquely on their own labor and the grace of the climate. Vastness of land and technological advances in agriculture count for nothing when hundreds of people do not have enough money to buy food or do not have the resources to produce it themselves. When more than two thirds of the populations in poor countries survive on agriculture, more than anything else, their life and livelihood depends on the climate. In Somalia, the poorest climate change victims suffer the return of an unforgiving drought brought on by climate change. For years now, within the borders of their own country, Somalian climate refugees: mothers, newborns, elderly, and youths travel for miles searching for water, shelter, and food. Again and again next year, as the drought continues in Somalia.
