El Nino in Africa – Famine in Chad.

El Nino in Africa – Famine in Chad.  In Northern Chad, near the town of Oum Hadir (around 800 km from Chad’s Capital, N’Dejamena), there is a village of 120 people.  Jumana, lives there. She is a mother with five children but lost one to hunger. She says,’ Four years ago, due to hunger, I lost a child. And my Father also died of hunger. Organics in Cambodia – SRI (System Rice Intensification)

Cambodia – SRI (System Rice Intensification) In Cambodia, we worked in partnership with CEDAC (the Centre d’Etude et de Développement Agricole Cambodgien / Cambodian Center for Study and Development in Agriculture). Established 16 years ago, CEDAC is changing lives by teaching skills and sharing knowledge with rural farmers based on ecological principles. All of the farms were SRI (System Rice Intensification) and farmers were interviewed about the positive social and economic impact of this type of ecological farming technique. This […]

U.S.A. – California – Innovative Food start ups

U.S.A. – California – Innovative Food start ups The U.S.A. has been a breeding ground for food scandals, people fighting huge corporations for safe food labelling and brainwashing food ads and commercials, often aimed at children. The Cereal Farm featured covers almost 200 hectares and shows the scalability of ecological farms and the potential for other farms to also upscale the size of their operations. The […]

Brazil – Urban Organic Farming.

Brazil – Urban Gardens, Composting and Food Waste. In Brazil, food is an extremely important part of their culture and day to day lives. Farmers are feeling that more people are supporting them and they, in turn, are happy to provide healthy, nutritious food to schools and markets. There are projects including ‘Cities without Hunger’ that encourages community involvement with growing their own food, composting and promoting contact with nature in an otherwise sprawling, urban landscape. Composting is a growing […]

Kenya. Push Pull Farming.

Kenya – Push-Pull Farming In Africa, many of the farms visited used the Push-Pull Farming technique, pioneered by ICIPE (International Centre of Insect Physiology and Ecology) over the last 20 years. This method for controlling agricultural pests uses “push” plants as repellents and “pull” plants to attract and trap pests. Scientists at ICIPE are further developing this technique to become climate resilient. We were with the scientists at the laboratories to witness scientific advancements and research in progress. Farmers in […]
